Grammar #3: Past Perfect (due Monday, June 3)

You had an appointment with me yesterday after class. You didn't come because something happened which prevented you from coming. What happened? Be CREATIVE. Extra points if you make me laugh. Use the past perfect.

    1. Sentence is unclear. Perhaps you had forgotten the appointment BEFORE you finished the class? The past perfect event happened FIRST.

  2. Holly I'm sorry so much. I couldn't go to our meeting because I had been busy repairing my kitchen plumbing. My home almost flood... So, may I get a new appointment? I really need to talk.

    1. You were sleeping before the appointment (you don't need to use the past perfect when the time relationship is clear).

      When you woke up, you realized that you had missed the appointment. Correct.

I did not forget it but while I was coming to you, my wife called me and she was so angry because I had forgotten our shopping day, I immediately ran to my car and I had fallen several times before I reached it. the worse was, I had received two speed tickets before I arrived my house. so please excuse me Ms. Cin I had a trouble day.

      Second sentence: You immediately ran to your car, BUT you had fallen several times... GOOD
      Third sentence: You had received two speeding tickets BY THE TIME you arrived home.

      An angry wife and two speeding tickets? I have to agree that you had a bad day, so I will forgive you ;)

    I was getting ready to meet you,my sister mopped the restroom floor,i hadn't known that as soon as i touched the wet floor, i had slipped on my butt and i said AWWWWW!!!!!.I couldn't even move that was really hurts,I'm sure that you know the feel how looks like.

      Yes, I know how that feels. I had a similar situation the week before on a boat in Austin.

  8. Holly, I am sorry about yesterday absent. I had had to absent yesterday. As you know that, yesterday had flood In Houston. Basically, my house had flooded, and suddenly, airplane dropped to my house from the sky. I think it crashed because of thunder. Now I have nothing. So I had to absent class yesterday. I am sorry.
